Dentures are an appliance used to replace one or more missing teeth. Unlike implants and bridges they are removable which makes them easier to clean and maintain. They come in a variety of materials and finishes.
More Information
There are many advantages to having dentures, they can help retain the shape to our cheeks, jaw and face which can be lost when a patient has missing teeth. They can help strengthen facial muscles, help with chewing, and prevent other teeth from drifting into the space left after extraction.
Full/Complete Dentures can be used to replace a full arch of missing teeth, we can supply patients with full dentures on either both or one of the arches.
Partial dentures are used when only one or a few teeth are missing. Clasps can be placed on partial dentures which wrap round existing teeth to help keep the denture in place.
Immediate dentures are also an option for patients who are due to have their teeth extracted and as the name suggests they are fitted immediately at the extraction appointment meaning our patients don’t need to leave the practice with missing teeth. Immediate dentures are used as a short term option for patients who don’t like the idea of having visible missing teeth when they smile however the bone can take 3-6 months to resorb following the extraction and as a result, the denture will become loose and need replacing.
Implant retained dentures are also a great choice, they are secured in place using one or several implants in the jaw meaning no denture adhesive is required.
There are many different types of material available when constructing a denture, the dentures we offer are:
- Injection Moulding Ivobase
- High Impact Diamond D Acrylic
- Valplast
- Chrome Dentures
We work closely with our labs to ensure a great finished is achieved and provide patients with advice to maintain the denture at home.
